THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) has intensified the manhunt for two inmates who escaped from Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo on Wednesday last week.

According to ZPCS National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi, the two inmates escaped during a supervised work assignment outside the prison facility.

They took advantage of the situation to gain access to a ZPCS vehicle, which they used to flee.

However, their escape was short-lived after they were involved in an accident a few kilometres from the worksite.

The duo subsequently abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

The escapees are identified as Feliciano Simango, also known as Fidelis Jorum Mauyangwe, and Never Matoma.
