LOYALTY, discipline and patriotism were the rallying call for members of the Zimbabwe National Army during a handover-takeover ceremony held at 4.3 Infantry Battalion in Chiredzi this Tuesday, as the Zimbabwe National Army reinforced its commitment to operational continuity and effective military leadership.
Lieutenant Colonel Tendai Chirinda officially assumed command of the battalion, taking over from Lieutenant Colonel Francis Ndlovu, who has been redeployed to 4.1 Combat Group in Masvingo.
The ceremony, held at Chikwerengwe Parade Square, was marked by military displays and attended by senior army officials, underscoring the importance of seamless leadership transitions within the Zimbabwe National Army.
Outgoing Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Ndlovu reflected on his tenure with gratitude and confidence in the battalion’s future leadership.
“Throughout my tenure as your Commanding Officer, I witnessed unwavering commitment to duty. We worked well together. My time was instrumental. As I pass this button, I am convinced the new Commanding Officer will take this Battalion far,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndlovu said.
Incoming Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Chirinda pledged to uphold the battalion’s standards of excellence while strengthening relations with the local community.
“I am grateful for this honour that I have been given, and I promise to do my best to ensure this Battalion continues to shine as we work together with the community,” Lieutenant Colonel Chirinda said.
Commander 4 Brigade, Brigadier General Oscar Tshuma, who was the Chief Witnessing Officer at the colourful event marked by military displays at the Chikwerengwe Parade square, had this to say.
“The two are high-calibre officers who have proven to be excellent leaders. I do not doubt their potential as they are disciplined. I am confident that they will fulfil their duties well, as they are well-trained and experienced. Let discipline and patriotism be at the centre of their leadership,” he said.
The handover takeover ceremony is more than just a military tradition; it ensures operational continuity, accountability, and a seamless transition of command.
