THE Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors, have officially commenced preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, scheduled to take place in Morocco later this month.

This week, a contingent of locally based players reported for the first phase of the training camp, providing them with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and compete for inclusion in the final squad that will represent Zimbabwe at the continental tournament.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed that players will be assessed individually under a controlled training environment, ensuring that the technical team, led by head coach Marian Mario Marinica, can make impartial selections.

Foreign-based players are expected in camp at different intervals as dictated by their club commitments.

The Warriors, who will be taking part in their sixth AFCON tournament, are set for an early departure to Morocco with the team send-off set for December 8.

The Warriors are building up on their last two friendly matches against Algeria and Qatar.
