THE late Mashonaland West-based liberation war hero, Cde Nyashadzamwari Chadzuka, who died on March 17, has been laid to rest at the Chinhoyi Heroes Acre.
Cde Chadzuka, who was described by family, colleagues and community members as a unifier and advocate for grassroots development, was buried on Saturday following a ceremony attended by Government officials, traditional leaders and members of the public.
Family members expressed gratitude for the national recognition accorded to the late liberation war hero.
“As a family, we are thankful to President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa for awarding us this honour. We did not know that his works were being noticed, and now we intend to carry on with his legacy, that of uniting communities and driving development,” Mrs Concilia Matushu said.
“We have lost someone who was passionate about development, not only at the family level. We are grateful to President Dr Mnangagwa for this recognition,” Mr Dean Shupikai Chadzuka noted.
Chief Mourner, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, said the nation should continue to safeguard the gains of the revolution.
“On behalf of Mashonaland West Province, I would want to thank President Cde Mnangagwa for affording us this honour. This testifies to the works done by the late cadre, dating back to the war of liberation to the present day. Cde Chadzuka was a development-oriented leader who was passionate about the development of his community. Let us continue to advance the principles left behind by the late comrade, shun drugs and build our country in line with the President’s mantra that ‘Nyika Inovakwa neVene Vayo.”
Born on January 14, 1959, at Mutare Hospital, Cde Chadzuka completed his primary and secondary education in Mutare before joining the liberation struggle in 1978.
He received military training at Chimoio Camp and later operated on the war front in Gaza Province.
Following independence in 1980, he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army, where he continued his service to the nation.
Cde Chadzuka is survived by his wife, Concilia, three children and three grandchildren.
