PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has challenged Zimbabwe’s education sector and youth to spearhead a “new kind of revolution” anchored on science, technology and innovation to drive industrialisation and economic transformation beyond Vision 2030.

Speaking at the burial of national hero Retired Brigadier General Samuel Mpabanga (Rtd) at the National Heroes Acre on Wednesday, the President said the country must now embrace a development trajectory powered by digitisation and modern technologies.

“At the present time, there is a new kind of revolution, one that is driven by science, technology, digitisation and innovation,” he said. “Education institutions must rise to the occasion and produce young people that can effectively drive the development, prosperity and growth of our nation.”

President Mnangagwa urged learners and academic institutions to draw inspiration from Zimbabwe’s liberation history while embracing the Government’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 model to accelerate economic modernisation.

“I, further, challenge the sector, therefore, along with the youth and learners at every level, to be inspired by our rich liberation war history and leverage on our Heritage Based Education 5.0,” he said.

He said young people should position themselves as “the new heroes who propel a knowledge-driven economy, anchored on new technologies, for the industrialisation and modernisation of our nation, beyond Vision 2030.”

The remarks form part of the Second Republic’s broader push to align education with innovation, research and industrial growth as Zimbabwe seeks to strengthen its competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global economy.
