Lady Chevrons step up World Cup preps

THE Zimbabwe women cricket team the Lady Chevrons are confident of qualifying for the T20 World Cup as they prepare for the qualifiers to be held in the United Arab Emirates later this month.

After Winning gold at the African Games and the white ball series against touring Papua New Gunea, the Lady Chevrons are riding on their stellar performance going into to the T20 World Cup Global qualifiers.

After months of hard work, the team is on a rigorous two-day training camp to fine-tune their preparations.

With departure for UAE set for Sunday Walter Chawaguta’s team is eager to put their best foot forward on the international stage.

“We have won games since the African games because we were taking a game at a time, break it down in different phases if we are battling first or bowling that then gives us a chance to calm down and handle pressure so that we don’t look at the end goal which is winning but above all we aim to qualify,” said Lady Chevrons’ captain, Mary-Anne Musonda.

The qualifiers will run from the 25th of April to the 7th of May in UAE.

Zimbabwe are in group B alongside Vanuatu, hosts United Arab Emirates, Ireland and Netherlands.

The top two teams will progress to the semi-finals a fb the finalist will progress to the World Cup.
