Geo Pomona waste management project to be replicated in other cities

THE United Nations is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Geo Pomona Waste Management that will see the project being replicated in other cities.

The GeoPomona Waste Management Project is in line with Sustainable Development Goals seven and eight that speak to ensuring access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy for all and promotion of inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

This emerged when a delegation from the United Nations and UNICEF toured the GeoPomona Waste Management Project in Harare, where they expressed satisfaction and interest in replicating the project in other cities.

“This is a world class project that speaks to sustainable waste management. it conforms with a number of sustainable development goals for example on health on environment and on economic development,” said UNICEF country representative, Dr Nicholas Kojo Alipui.

Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited chief executive officer, Mr Dilesh Nguwaya briefed the delegation on the progress made so far which include construction of a sorting plant, hazardous waste landfill treatment and recreational facilities.

“We have made commendable progress, construction of a salting plant is underway. We have also constructed roads and Street lights to ensure delivery trucks can dump for 24 hours sport facilities. We have also constructed sporting facilities.”

Other facilities that are under the scope of the project include construction of a water treatment plant that will be used in the waste to energy project.
