African ministers responsible for labour are gathering in Mombasa, Kenya, to deliberate on issues affecting labour administration and human development, on an occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) Governing Council.
Zimbabwe’s delegation is being led by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare,Honourable July Moyo.
Permanent Secretary, Mr Simon Masanga is the Acting Chairman of the Council of Senior Officials.
In his address, Honourable Moyo called on leaders to recognise the sacrifice and labour made by employees of organisations and use that as an example for enterprises of African countries to recognise the work of creating wealth that is rendered by employees.
“As the chairman of this prestigious council, I am honoured to lead such a distinguished gathering of minds and hearts devoted to the cause of labour administration and human development. We are the custodians of a brighter future for our workforce and for the continent at large. We must network and become a dynamic and inclusive group which can influence decisions in our continent, particularly when we meet at the African Union level. Ladies and Gentlemen, let us make this 50th ARLAC Governing Council a landmark event that champions innovation, inclusivity, and integrity in labour administration,” he said.
The Minister, who officially opened the 50th session of the ARLAC Governing Council, paid homage to the founders of ARLAC, whom he implored to become permanent ambassadors in defining the principles on which ARLAC was founded.
“As we stand at the threshold of our 50th anniversary, we gather here not only to celebrate our past achievements but to forge a future that assures productive employment and decent work for the millions across Africa. Half a century ago, visionary leaders foresaw the need for unity in addressing the challenges related to labour, employment, and manpower development in our region. The establishment of ARLAC was a testament to this collaborative spirit, and it is this same spirit that brings us together today,” he added.
