Iran’s new President, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian has been sworn in in the presence of several world leaders and international dignitaries, among them Zimbabwe’s Vice President Kembo Mohadi.
A high level show of commitment, Zimbabwe’s presence at the inauguration ceremony for Iran’s new President, cements the mutual bond between the two countries through bilateral cooperation.
Vice President Mohadi, attending on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was among high profile delegates, who included 10 presidents, prime ministers, ambassadors and special envoys from both within Africa and the international community.
At the swearing in ceremony, Iran expressed gratitude to the visiting officials and stated commitment to further strengthen its foreign policy with key partners.
“My government attaches great importance in our friends. We want to solidify our existing international relations. We want to do away with unjust sanctions,” said Dr Pezeshkian.
He becomes the ninth President of Iran after winning the presidential run-off election held on the 5th of July this year.
Iran and Zimbabwe share deep bilateral cooperation, and there has been assurance by its leadership that Memoranda of Understanding signed between the two countries will be carried through to fruition under the new leadership.
