Hwange’s Big Charlie dies

Story by Batsirai Donavan Shoko

A Hwange man popularly known as Big Charlie on account of his unique physical attributes has passed away.

The giant from the mining town famed for his 2,1 metres height and 300kgs weight reportedly passed away this Tuesday morning at St Patrick’s Hospital in Empumalanga Suburb.

According to family Spokesperson Ms Susan Ndlovu, Big Charlie had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes.

“He was ferried to the hospital on Thursday night. He has been in hospital since then. We were hopeful as a family that he would make but it was never to be. We are devastated as a family.”

The late claimed his stake in history for his weight, height and even dietary habits.

Big Charlie would have a teapot of tea for breakfast, while his usual lunch or dinner meals would equate to those consumed by an equivalent of three men.
