Green Machine roar past Highlanders in historic Barbourfields triumph

CAPS United underlined their championship credentials with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, ending a 10-year winless run at the iconic venue.
The result marked CAPS United’s first victory at Barbourfields since 2015 and handed Highlanders their first defeat of the season.
In one of the toughest assignments in Zimbabwean football, the Green Machine displayed composure, discipline and resilience to claim a significant away win.
CAPS United took control through two expertly executed set pieces. Kudzai Chigwida opened the scoring before Lloyd Njaliwa doubled the advantage, with both players capitalising on defensive lapses at the back post.
Highlanders responded strongly after the break, with Darlington Mukuli pulling one back in the 74th minute to set up a tense finish.
Roared on by their home supporters, Bosso pressed for an equaliser, but CAPS United held firm under sustained pressure to secure all three points.
The victory was CAPS United’s seventh of the campaign and extended their lead at the top of the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League table to four points.
Meanwhile, at Rufaro Stadium, Dynamos and ZPC Kariba played out a goalless draw in a match that produced few clear-cut opportunities.
