THE government has challenged tertiary students to transform their innovations and research into tangible businesses that revolutionise the country’s economy.

Addressing students from various tertiary institutions in Masvingo province during a public lecture at the Reformed Church University, Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Ezra Chadzamira noted that there are several opportunities for innovative minds in tertiary institutions under the Second Republic.

“Zimbabwe, under the able leadership of His Excellency, The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Cde. Dr E. D. Mnangagwa came up with heritage-based Education 5.0 as one of the key components towards the attainment of Vision 2030.

“It is on this basis that I urge the students’ fraternity to transform their innovations and research into tangible businesses that revolutionize the economy from institutions of education up to the national level. As university students, you should embrace this spirit of innovation and collaboration,” he said.

The ZANU PF Youth League also spoke on the role of students in nation-building.

“Youths are the pillar of our country, the veterans of today hence you have a role to play towards to attainment of Vision 2030. As ZANU PF Youths League, we say to you, young women and young man of this country, you remain indebted to safeguard the independence of your country,” ZANU PF Youth League National member, Cde Charles Munganasa said.

The need for constant dialogue between tertiary institutions and government was also highlighted, with students appealing for involvement in decision-making programmes.

“This engagement has proved that the government recognizes the important role young people play in ensuring development including University students.  We understand the vision outlined by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration and we must ensure that vision is fulfilled,” ZICOSU Masvingo Provincial chairperson, Blessed Mlenga said.

Minister Chadzamira, accompanied by the provincial leadership and the Reformed Church University, also took the opportunity to tour development projects undertaken by the institution, in line with the country’s heritage-based Education 5.0 Model.
