Govt upscales youth empowerment initiatives

GOVERNMENT says it is spearheading various youth empowerment initiatives across the country, including the establishment and refurbishment of vocational training centres(VTCs).

Government’s thrust to equip young people with essential skills for the job market has seen a number of youth empowerment projects and training programmes being undertaken in all the country’s provinces.

Speaking during an announcement of a new board for the Zimbabwe Youth Council, the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training Honourable Tino Machakaire said the programmes are a direct response to the urgent need for capacity building among the youth dividend.

Three existing centres will undergo refurbishment to enhance their facilities and expand their training programmes.

“Since the formation of our ministry last year, a lot of programmes are happening that include refurbishment of VTCs, and other empowerment projects. There are efforts to empower our youths including the Nhakiwa youth services. We have the cattle project that we launched and we are capacitating youths with tools of trade,” Honourable Machakaire said

The new board, which will be chaired by Rutendo Mugwagwa is tasked with ensuring implementation of the ministry’s mandate in particular promotion of youth participation activities and economic empowerment.
