A visiting delegation from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces has applauded Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited for investing in forward-thinking solutions to urban waste management and energy challenges.

The giant waste-to-energy plant continues to attract attention, with the Ugandan delegation being the latest to appreciate the facility this Friday.

The delegation, which was accompanied by members from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, noted how the project is raising the national flag high.

“I am happy to be here at Geo Pomona and I am impressed with the waste management system being put in place. This is a major challenge in most African cities, and there is no reason why such a model cannot be adopted in Uganda. It is a great benchmark.

“I recommend they publicise their work more, because poor waste disposal is a huge health hazard across many developing countries. Though I am in the military, I will take this knowledge back to our relevant government departments,” head of the delegation, Brigadier General Abdul Gumayo said.

Geo Pomona Waste Management Private Limited’s Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairperson, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya highlighted the company’s progress in turning urban waste into clean energy, setting new standards for environmental sustainability in Zimbabwe.

“I am happy that, as Geo Pomona Waste Management, we are leading in waste management on the continent. By doing so, we are putting Zimbabwe on the map. We have hosted visitors from across Africa who are coming to learn how we manage waste, and that is something we are proud of as Zimbabweans.

“So far, we have cleared over 170 000 tonnes of waste from illegal dumpsites and more than 13 000 tonnes from household door-to-door collections. These efforts are key to improving public health and environmental sustainability.”

The company is already contributing to national development through job creation and environmental management, and upon completion, it is expected to feed the national grid with electricity.

As the Second Republic moves towards fully embracing green energy and sustainable infrastructure, the Geo Pomona Waste Management project stands out as a flagship initiative, driving Zimbabwe’s commitment to environmental stewardship and modernisation.
