PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Eswatini ahead of the country’s national day celebrations and the official opening of the 57th International Trade Fair set for this Saturday.
The President was received at King Mswati III International Airport by the Prime Minister of Eswatini, the Right Honourable Russell Mmiso Dlamini, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Eswatini and Mozambique, Victor Matemadanda, as well as other embassy officials.
Eswatini celebrates independence on September 6 each year, having overcome the British colonial rule in 1968.
As part of the 57th Eswatini National Day celebrations, there are festivities lined up, which include the ongoing International Trade Fair and Umhlanga.
The day is punctuated by traditional dances, songs, and vibrant cultural festivities to celebrate the country’s heritage and national pride.
The festivities will be held at Somhlolo Stadium in Lombaba, the royal capital of Eswatini.
President Mnangagwa and King Mswati III will tour exhibition stands and officially open the international trade exhibition this Saturday, which is part of the festivities of independence celebrations.
Eswatini International Trade Fair serves as a platform for traders to introduce and promote themselves in the local market and beyond, which is complemented by value-addition initiatives such as business conferences.
Eswatini became a British protectorate in 1903 following the end of the Boer War and King Sobhuza II played a significant role in leading the nation to independence through negotiations and diplomacy.
The country officially changed its name from Swaziland to the Kingdom of Eswatini in 2018.
