CAPS United’s inconsistent Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign continued on Thursday after the Harare giants slumped to a 1-0 home defeat against newcomers FC Hunters at Rufaro Stadium.
Fresh from a 2-0 victory over Manica Diamonds last weekend, Makepekepe had hoped to build momentum and close the gap on the league’s frontrunners. Instead, they produced a lacklustre display and were punished by a determined FC Hunters side.
Godfrey Dabgwa scored the decisive goal to hand the visitors a crucial victory and three valuable points in their battle against relegation.
The defeat leaves CAPS United with just one win, three draws and one loss from their last five league matches, raising further concerns over their inconsistency as the race for the title intensifies.
For FC Hunters, the victory marks a significant boost to their survival hopes, with the newcomers turning Rufaro Stadium into a happy hunting ground by claiming a memorable away win.
Elsewhere, Triangle United and Ngezi Platinum Stars played out a 1-1 draw at Gibbo Stadium, while Hardrock returned to winning ways with a convincing 2-0 victory over Agama at Wadzanai Stadium.
