A Harare man has been handed an effective two-year jail term after the courts found him guilty of culpable homicide arising from reckless driving that claimed a life.

Thirty-nine-year-old Ernest Ringisai Mauna was convicted after a road traffic accident along Harare Drive in Borrowdale, which resulted in the death of Andrew Makuwaza in April this year.

Circumstances are that Mauna was speeding when he rammed into a vehicle in front of him, causing a pile-up.

The deceased was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Investigations confirmed negligence on Mauna’s part. He will serve an effective 24 months in prison after 12 months were suspended.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered the cancellation of Mauna’s driver’s licence.
