Former champions Black Rhinos Queens gunning for glory

Story by Anashe Murombedzi

FORMER champions Black Rhinos Queens are preparing for a serious title challenge in the 2024 Women Premier Soccer League which kicks off on Saturday.

Black Rhinos Queens once dominated the league, winning four titles on the bounce before relinquishing their crown to Herentals who have won two titles on the trot.

The army side found it difficult to maintain their dominance, finishing as runners up last season, but with a renewed sense of determination and new recruits, the team is ready to fight for top spot once again.

“We have objectives as a club that we are expected to achieve and last season we finished as runners up but this season we want to return to our old days to finish as champions although it will not be easy but we promise to work hard to achieve our goal,” said Black Rhinos Queens head coach, Kudakwashe Matuwi .

Coach Matuwi has roped in six new players from the club’s developmental side including Passion Chihwenha, Tatenda Temba, Kelly Chatyoka, Anny Chakomanoko, Marcia Nyanhete and Caroline Mangwaya.

The former champions face new girls ZRP Harare Queens in their Women Premier Soccer League opener this weekend.
