Six people died while another one was injured after a mine dump landslide at Homesteak Mine, also known as Globe and Phoenix in Kwekwe Wednesday afternoon.
Kwekwe District Development Coordinator Mr Fortune Mupungu confirmed the incident saying the government has since called off rescue operations after a roll call confirmed that the syndicate had seven people who have since been accounted for.
In 2020, the government ordered the closure of Globe and Phoenix mine after two miners were killed while several others were injured in a similar fashion.
The government ordered that the mine was only to be reopened after fulfilling some safety measures.
