Film development topical as festival ends

The 21st edition of the International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) ended on a high note at the National Art Gallery in Harare, Saturday evening, with the need to focus on film development taking centre stage.

The festival ran from the 23rd to the 31st of August.

“This festival has been amazing, we have had a range of films and wonderful audiences. The theme was ‘Women Of The Future’ and we are encouraging Zimbabwean women to create a different future for themselves,” said the founder of the Institute for Creative Arts for Progress in Africa, Tsitsi Dangarembwa.

Festival Director, Ms Eresina Hwede said, “I see an improvement to the Zimbabwean category and also the idea that we have introduced a new prize, which is the most improved story telling. We are working with the film makers from the beginning of the actual film. This is the difference now, because we always focus on the films, but now we are focusing on the development of the film itself, which is important for the development of film making in Zimbabwe and Africa at large.”

Through celebrating women in film, the festival seeks to break barriers and foster a more equitable industry, where their stories, ideas and creativity reach full potential.
