More than 40 000 youths from across the country are expected to converge in Lupane on the 21st of this month for commemorations to mark the National Youth Day.
The event will be graced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Briefing the media, this Friday, the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Kirsty Coventry said in the spirit of decentralisation, every province has been allocated a budget for the celebrations.
“We are celebrating the day on a Tuesday which is a public holiday. It’s a day we give recognition to young people, bringing them together and allowing them to interact with His Excellency, President Mnangagwa. Our theme this year is ‘Drug and substance abuse, a threat to Vision 2030’. The President will give his speech and in the afternoon we will have music, dance and sport. We will use music, dance and sport to drive home the message on drug and substance abuse. One of the President’s key messages is on decentralisation, so every single province has been given a budget. So all provinces will follow the same programme and theme. We will also award youths who are making a difference in their communities,” Hon Coventry said.
Meanwhile, other provinces are expected to host provincial commemorations any day during the Youth Week from the 20th to the 26th of this month, with the Ministers of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution leading the celebrations.
