GURUVE— EUREKA Gold Mine, located in Bindura, is on a major expansion drive which has seen the construction of over 50 houses for families displaced by the mine’s activities in Guruve District.

A total of 53 families have already been resettled into new homes built by the mine as part of its corporate social responsibility and community development initiatives.

Beyond housing, the mine has also invested in local education infrastructure.

Speaking during a site tour, the mine’s Human Capital Support Services Manager, Mr Tinago Tinago, revealed that Muroyiwa Primary School currently a satellite of Chimanikire Primary School will soon be upgraded into a fully-fledged primary school.

“Here where we are is Muroyiwa Primary School. Since we are relocating people to this area, we plan to convert it into a full primary school. So far, we have built two classroom blocks, and we are working on a third,” she said.

General Manager of Eureka Gold Mine, Mr Nelson Banda, highlighted the mine’s strong relations with the surrounding communities and ongoing support from the government.

“We are pleased with the cordial relations we have with the community and the support we continue to get from government. We hope to increase production owing to expansion of our mine. Last year, the mine produced 1 800 kilogrammes of gold against a target of 1 700 kilogrammes,” he said.

Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, has commended Eureka’s developmental efforts and reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting public-private partnerships that uplift communities.

“Your invitation is a reflection of the strong partnership that must exist between government and the private sector. We will continue to support Eureka and other mining operations in advancing development both within the sector and across the nation,” he said.

Reopened in 2020 by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Eureka Gold Mine remains a key contributor to Zimbabwe’s gold output and broader economic development agenda, particularly under the national vision to attain an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
