THE Epworth Glenwood community in Harare has received a major boost in water and sanitation infrastructure, thanks to Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2025, Lyshanda Moyas.
For years, traders and residents at Epworth’s Glenwood shopping area have struggled with limited access to clean water.
That long struggle has turned into celebration, with the beauty queen commissioning a new clean water facility and ablution services at Glenwood Business Centre as part of her community outreach ahead of next month’s Miss Universe pageant in Thailand.
“As a trader here at Glenwood shops, I am at a loss for words. We struggled for years working here without water, but today that issue has been solved. We thank Miss Universe for this noble initiative,” a resident said.
“I have worked here for years, and we did not have water, especially here at the shops. It was a problem, and we are excited that they have brought relief for us, the Epworth community,” another added.
The project is under Miss Universe Zimbabwe’s Corporate Social Outreach programme, led by the Miss Universe Zimbabwe Trust.
“This is not our first time, as we also came with the then reigning Miss Universe to donate another borehole. We are aware of your challenges, including water, which is why we are here. We are committed to assisting whenever we get a chance,” Miss Universe Zimbabwe Board Chairperson, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga said.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe, Lyshanda Moyas said the initiative is part of efforts to empower communities that have endured years without adequate water and sanitation.
“The clean water and hygiene facilities we are commissioning today will contribute to the health, dignity, and well-being of residents and traders. Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and I saw it fit to facilitate this project to ensure reliable access for all.”
Beyond infrastructure, Moyas is also supporting teen mothers and young women through maternity support and entrepreneurship training initiatives aimed at restoring confidence and building self-sustaining futures.
She is set to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand next month.
