E-passport office for Gokwe

Story by Tafara Chikumira

THE Gokwe community is celebrating a major milestone after the government commissioned an e-passport office in the district.

The new e-passport office is expected to service Gokwe, some parts of Matabeleland North and Mashonaland West provinces.

The community is pleased with the development which has brought critical services to their doorsteps.

“This is great for us as the people of Gokwe. We used to have problems with getting critical services. I once tried to get a passport in Gweru but failed to get it after I was given number 168. I came on Tuesday last week and today I already have my passport in less than seven working days,” said one of the beneficiaries.

Another added,  “I am so happy to have my first passport since I was born. I am sure I have since been empowered since I can now go outside the country to get orders for my market. I want to thank my President for this milestone.”

“We have just been remembered here in Gokwe. The travel expenses that we used to have by going to Gweru have since been dealt with. It’s a big deal for us,” another beneficiary noted.

Government says it will continue to improve lives in previously marginalised communities in line with the Second Republic’s inclusive development agenda.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I urge you all to support the transformational leadership of His Excellency the President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa as he leads the country towards the attainment of an upper middle-income economy by 2030. He is indeed a tried, tested and trusted and people-centric capable leader with a clear vision of the development trajectory of our beloved country Zimbabwe My tour of the Gokwe South E-Passport office today has indeed been an eye opener as we put our best foot forward in showcasing the Second Republic’s modernisation programmes and projects,” said Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution,  Honourable Owen Ncube.

The Gokwe e-passport office brings to three the number of passport offices in the Midlands.

There are two other e-passport offices in Zvishavane and Gweru.
