Devolution brings development to Epworth

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Second Republic’s Devolution Programme has become a transformative tool in Epworth, Harare, where it is ushering in a new era of development and empowerment.

The Second Republic’s Vision 2030 has ushered in unprecedented infrastructure development in several communities, including Epworth.

The projects include new Market Stalls which are under construction, Mabvazuva Clinic and classroom blocks at Glenwood School.

“We are grateful for all the transformations taking place here. Until recently, this area was often looked down upon, but now we are happy,” said a resident.

Another added, “In terms of accessing healthcare services, we have witnessed significant improvements, with this facility helping a large number of people. We can now access healthcare services without major difficulties.”

Epworth Local Board Chief Executive Officer Dr Wilton Mhanda highlighted the scope of the life-changing projects in the area.

“We are doing quite a lot of projects here in Epworth as a result of devolution funds. The most critical one is that we are able to speed up the building of schools. Of late, we used to struggle in the construction, but because of the devolution funds, we managed to construct three blocks in addition to the original one. We are thankful for the devolution funds,”

The Epworth community has seen significant transformation under the Second Republic, with residents becoming the first beneficiaries of the Presidential Title Deeds and Regularisation Programme in 2023.
