COCAZ-ZIMRA talks signal shift towards formal digital economy

THE Content Creators Association of Zimbabwe has endorsed a tax compliance drive by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, urging the introduction of clear and practical guidelines to support the country’s fast-growing digital content sector.
The move follows a recent ZIMRA public notice calling on individuals and businesses, particularly those earning income online or through cryptocurrencies to regularise their tax affairs by June 30.
The tax authority is offering a waiver on penalties for voluntary disclosures made within the deadline, although interest on outstanding amounts will still apply.
COCAZ and ZIMRA have since engaged to clarify the implications for content creators, with both parties focusing on improving compliance while ensuring the sector is not constrained by unclear regulations.
COCAZ co-founder Mr Takunda Tapfuma said the engagement marks a significant step towards formalising Zimbabwe’s digital economy.
“We welcome the engagement with ZIMRA as a positive step toward recognising and formalising the digital economy. We encourage creators to take advantage of the voluntary compliance window while we work to ensure fair, clear and practical guidelines that support and protect our community,” he said.
The association is expected to issue further guidance to its members in the coming days, as efforts intensify to integrate content creators into the formal economic framework.
