THE Zimbabwe senior men’s cricket team, the Chevrons, have a daunting task to level the two-match Test series against South Africa when the two nations face off in the second Test match beginning this Sunday at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Eying a historic win, the Chevrons need to be at their best to defeat the World Test champions in the second and final test match of the bilateral series.
After suffering a 328-run defeat in the first Test, Zimbabwe will need to overcome a bullish South African side that has gone for eleven test matches without tasting defeat since skipper Temba Bavuma took the reins.
The Proteas look sharper than ever with an ambitious young squad that is disciplined in all aspects of the game and ready to hunt at any given time.
The Chevrons will need to bring their A-game against the world champions if they are to break South Africa’s winning streak in Test Cricket.
Zimbabwe has never beaten South Africa in the nine previous Test matches between the two neighbours, losing eight and drawing one in that record, prompting the Chevrons to be at their best to finally beat South Africa.
The Craig Ervine captained side needs to polish their act after dropping a number of catches in the first match and failing to kill the game after putting South Africa under pressure in both the first and second innings.
Zimbabwe will be motivated by their victory over Bangladesh in April this year and will need a victory over the Proteas to better their overall winning percentage in test matches, which stands at just over 11 percent.
