ALGERIA is seeking to scale up cooperation with Zimbabwe in various sectors of the economy, including education.
This came out when the Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Mohamed Seoudi, paid a courtesy call on Vice President General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga this Thursday.
With relations between Harare and Algiers dating back to the days of the liberation struggle, the two countries continue to seek closer ties for development.
Emerging from a closed-door meeting with Vice President Chiwenga, His Excellency Seoudi said cooperation will transcend to other sectors beyond education.
“We discussed the issues of cooperation between our countries in all fields. Algeria is going to build a high school here in Zimbabwe. We are also planning to aid our brothers in Zimbabwe to face this drought that we have in India, that we have here. It’s coming maybe next week.
“We also discussed the scholarship that Algeria is offering to Zimbabwe. For the students in all fields, especially in the technical and medical ones. We also discussed organising the meeting of the Permanent Joint Commission between our two countries in the coming months,” he said.
The Algerian top envoy further revealed that the impending Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation is tasked with fully implementing agreed areas of cooperation.
“I will be frank with you and tell you that since the last JPCC, there were very few steps. But now we are reviving it, and we are discussing all the fields, and we are having meetings here in Zimbabwe. Me and my brothers from all sectors here in Zimbabwe, and my brother, Ambassador Ndonga, the Ambassador of Zimbabwe in Algeria, who is also doing his best,” he added.
The envisioned school is expected to benefit not only Zimbabwe but the SADC region by extension as the region looks towards improving the education sector for sustainable development.
