Highlanders seek third straight win against unbeaten Ngezi Platinum

Story by Mthokozisi Dube

BULAWAYO giants Highlanders F.C. will be chasing a third consecutive victory when they host Ngezi Platinum Stars F.C., the only unbeaten side in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season after 12 matches.

Four years ago, former Warriors striker Benjani Mwaruwari was entrusted with leading the Ngezi Platinum Stars technical bench, but the relationship failed to flourish as results remained elusive.

What followed were legal wrangles that eventually saw Ngezi Platinum Stars slapped with a FIFA transfer ban, bringing a bitter end to Mwaruwari’s spell at Madamburo.

Now, in 2026, fate has handed the former Zimbabwe international an opportunity to write a different chapter, this time from the opposite dugout.

Mwaruwari is gradually rebuilding confidence at Highlanders, with Bosso seemingly rediscovering their rhythm after back-to-back victories.

The Bulawayo giants have emerged as one of the league’s in-form sides, collecting 11 points from their last six matches, the same tally amassed by log leaders CAPS United F.C. over the same period.

Belief is also growing within the Bosso camp following the emergence of impact substitute Reason Sibanda, whose late heroics against Triangle United F.C. and Hardrock F.C. handed Highlanders crucial victories.

With momentum on their side and emotions expected to run high, Sunday’s clash presents Mwaruwari with a chance to make a statement against the club where his coaching journey began and where he endured some of his toughest moments.

Ngezi Platinum Stars remain the only unbeaten side in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and continue to demonstrate why they are regarded as one of the toughest teams to break down.

Matchday 13 action begins this Saturday, with Kwekwe United F.C. taking on Agama F.C. at Heart Stadium.

Another heavyweight clash is set for Mandava Stadium, where former champions FC Platinum host Chicken Inn F.C..

TelOne F.C. will entertain Manica Diamonds F.C. at Ascot Stadium, while wounded Simba Bhora F.C. host high-flying CAPS United at Wadzanayi Stadium in one of the weekend’s headline fixtures.

Bulawayo Chiefs F.C. face Hardrock at Barbourfields Stadium, while defending champions Scottland F.C. clash with ZPC Kariba F.C. at Rufaro Stadium.

On Sunday, troubled Dynamos F.C., who have gone six matches without a win, face Triangle United at Rufaro Stadium, while MWOS F.C. take on Herentals F.C. at Ngoni Stadium.
