HUNDREDS of residents in Marondera have added their voices in support of Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill.
The residents pledged their support for the Bill during the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme held in Marondera Central this Thursday.
The programme has reached Marondera Central as part of efforts to address persistent water shortages in urban and peri-urban areas.
Residents, including some opposition supporters who gathered for the handover of the boreholes, took the opportunity to express their support for Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill.
“The boreholes will ease our water challenges. We are happy that each ward will receive a borehole. As youths, we support Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill,” said one resident.
Another resident said the programme is already improving lives in communities that have struggled with water shortages for years.
“We have been facing serious water problems for a long time, so these boreholes will bring relief to many families. Development programmes such as these show that no one is being left behind,” said the resident.
Presidential Investment and Empowerment Advisor, Dr Paul Tungwarara, described the initiative as an inclusive development programme aimed at improving the lives of all Zimbabweans.
“Today’s project is about a promise fulfilled ensuring clean water reaches every Zimbabwean. That is the vision of His Excellency; bringing water to every citizen. These boreholes are not for a privileged few, but for every Zimbabwean. This is testimony that His Excellency is a true father to the nation despite political differences. He wants to see empowerment reaching all provinces,” he said.
Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, said the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme would provide medium-term relief to water shortages while long-term solutions are being implemented.
“The boreholes will, in the medium term, ease water shortages while we implement long-term solutions to improve water availability. As a province, we have endorsed Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill because of the benefits associated with its provisions,” said Advocate Ndudzo.
The Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill is now set to be tabled before Parliament for debate following the conclusion of public hearings conducted on the proposed legislative amendments.
