Special Constitutional Court sitting marks Chief Justice Malaba’s final day

Story by Peter Chivhima

CHIEF Justice Luke Malaba is presiding over a special sitting of the Constitutional Court marking the conclusion of a judicial career spanning more than four decades.

The sitting, attended by government officials, serving and retired judges, as well as members of the legal fraternity, comes ahead of Chief Justice Malaba’s retirement at midnight on Thursday in line with the Constitution’s mandatory retirement age provisions.

Chief Justice Malaba has chaired the Judicial Service Commission since 2017 and is widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most experienced jurists.

He joined the judiciary in 1984 as a prosecutor before rising through the ranks to become the country’s Chief Justice.

The special Constitutional Court session marks the end of a career that has shaped Zimbabwe’s legal and judicial landscape over four decades of public service.
