PREMIER Soccer League returnees Bulawayo Chiefs are targeting maximum points against Herentals on Saturday as they seek to strengthen their survival bid in the top flight.
Amakhosi Amahle head into the Barbourfields Stadium encounter buoyed by last weekend’s victory over log leaders CAPS United, a result that handed the Harare giants only their second defeat of the season.
Bulawayo Chiefs coach John Nyikadzino, however, has warned against complacency ahead of the clash with Herentals, who sit four points above them on the table.
“We are not reading much into our past performance. We respect our opponents. They are four points ahead of us for a reason because they have been posting good results,” he said.
“We have been preparing very well for the game. We know it will not be an easy match, but the boys are raring for the challenge.”
Chiefs are aiming to avoid relegation after returning to the Premier Soccer League following a two-year absence.
Elsewhere, unbeaten Ngezi Platinum Stars travel to Heart Stadium to face fellow newcomers FC Hunters, while MWOS host Chicken Inn at Ngoni Stadium.
At Mandava Stadium, FC Platinum take on defending champions Scottland in one of the weekend’s headline fixtures.
A Midlands derby is also on the cards at Ascot Stadium, where TelOne host Hardrock, who continue to impress in their debut top-flight campaign.
Former champions Simba Bhora face ZPC Kariba at Wadzanayi Stadium, while Manica Diamonds entertain league debutants Agama at Sakubva Stadium.
Sunday’s fixtures are headlined by the Harare derby between Dynamos and CAPS United at Rufaro Stadium, while Highlanders wrap up Match Day 11 action against Triangle.
Meanwhile, Hardrock coach Kelvin Kaindu has been named Coach of the Month for April, while Herentals captain Ralph Kawondera scooped the Player of the Month award following a string of impressive performances.
