THE Premier Netball League delivered another thrilling round of action on Saturday as its second bubble lit up Mazowe, with teams battling for crucial early-season points.
Matches were staged across three centres, with one of the main venues at Mai Mugabe School in Mazowe, where eight teams competed in a highly competitive fixture programme.
P-Stars emerged as the standout side of the day, producing a flawless performance by winning all three of their matches against Chibs, Imbizo and Ligi Dolphins.
Premier Netball League Secretary-General Alice Makunura said the competition has grown significantly this season, with clubs investing more heavily in talent and player development.
“The league has improved considerably compared to last season. Competition is much tighter, with every team aiming for the top. Most teams have invested in new players, and we are also seeing clubs empowering athletes through employment opportunities and scholarships. The league has gone beyond sport to empowering the girl child,” she said.
P-Stars Governor Peter Nyeredzi said the matches also form part of preparations for an upcoming regional cancer awareness tournament scheduled for October in Mashonaland Central.
“These games are part of our preparations for the cancer awareness tournament we will host in October. It will be a regional event featuring teams from Botswana, Namibia and Zambia,” he said.
Meanwhile, two other bubbles were held in Harare, where defending champions ZDF, along with Chapungu and Makate High Flyers, recorded convincing victories to maintain their strong starts to the campaign.
