ZIMBABWEAN long jumper, Tafadzwa Chikomba delivered a historic performance at the Oregon Team Invitational, soaring to 8.25 metres to win the men’s event and shatter a 37-year-old record early this Saturday.
Chikomba’s leap eclipses the previous mark of 8.21 metres set by Kenny Harrison back in 1988.
The effort is a new personal best for the Zimbabwean and now ranks him number one in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and ninth in the world according to World Athletics.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwean sprinter, Makanakaishe Charamba continues to underline his rising profile on the international stage.
Charamba clocked 20.28 seconds to finish third in a highly competitive 200 metre race at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida, competing for Zupco Express Athletics Club under the guidance of fellow Zimbabwean Olympian Ken Harden.
American star Noah Lyles opened his season in style, winning the race in 19.91 seconds, while Max Thomas took second place with a personal best of 19.98.
