Health alert: Contaminated Citro Soda batch withdrawn from market

THE Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) has issued a public health alert, recalling a specific batch of Citro Soda over concerns of possible contamination.
The affected product, Citric Acid/Sodium Citrate/Bicarbonate/Tartaric Acid sachets, batch number C134584 is manufactured by Adcock Ingram Limited.
According to MCAZ, the recall follows the identification of potential foreign material contamination during an inspection of the manufacturer’s facility in South Africa by regulatory authorities.
The medicines regulator has directed all licensed wholesalers, pharmacies, and both public and private health institutions to immediately quarantine the affected stock and work with distributors to facilitate its withdrawal from circulation.
Members of the public who may have purchased the implicated batch have been urged to return it to the pharmacy where it was obtained.
Authorities said the measure is part of ongoing efforts to protect public health and ensure that all medicines on the market meet required safety and quality standards.
MCAZ added that it will continue to monitor pharmaceutical products and take appropriate action whenever risks to consumers are identified.
