CITIZENS in Bindura turned out in large numbers for public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, signalling strong engagement ahead of nationwide consultations.
Residents gathered at Tendai Hall from as early as 7 a.m., eager to voice their views on the proposed legislation, which seeks to extend the electoral cycle and strengthen governance institutions. The venue quickly reached capacity, with some participants forced to sit outside.
“I am a vendor, so I support the increase in the election cycle because we are always being called to campaign and we stop our operations, so we need time to work and support our families, not always to be in election mode,” a vendor said.
“This Bill and its provisions are good for our country. It gives us room for development to delay elections to once every seven years. It reduces factions and fights. I am also happy about the Chiefs; they should get into politics full-time and vote freely,” a resident added.
In the afternoon, the Joint Parliamentary Select Committee convened another hearing at Nzvimbo Growth Point Council Hall in Mazowe district, where the venue was also filled beyond capacity.
The Committee confirmed that public hearings will continue throughout the week, and citizens unable to attend in person can submit their views via emails provided by Parliament.
