THE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) continues to connect with communities, drawing large crowds to its radio roadshow held at Maphisa Business Centre on Saturday.
The event brought together popular radio personalities, local artists and officials from the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services as part of build-up activities for the national Independence celebrations.
ZBC Chief Executive Officer Mr Sugar Chagonda said the strong turnout reflects the broadcaster’s enduring appeal and national reach.
“As ZBC, we are in Maphisa as a precursor to the national Independence to tell the Zimbabwean story. We brought a set of boxes and television sets which we gave traditional institutions like Chiefs, schools and RDCs so that we keep the population informed, we also observed a lot of talent which we think can be harnessed for ZBC content.”
The roadshow also served as a platform to bridge the information gap between rural and urban communities, particularly on current affairs and legislative developments.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mr Nick Mangwana said the initiative aligns with ZBC’s mandate to inform, educate and entertain.
“The roadshow was important in two issues, the first one being ZBC informing, educating and entertaining, it was also a platform to educate people on the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 and its tenets.”
Deputy Minister Dr Omphile Marupi said the outreach reflects Government’s inclusive development approach.
“This is what we always say when we say no one is being left behind, the story of Maphisa is being told by the people of Maphisa, there is evidence in infrastructure that being done in preparation for the independence and most of the infrastructure will be left here even after the independence.”
The roadshow featured lively performances from local artists, adding to the celebratory atmosphere as the country prepares to mark Independence under the theme “Zim@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030.”
