Mapaya falls short of personal best at World Indoor Championships

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

ZIMBABWE’s leading triple jumper Chengetayi Mapaya finished 15th in the men’s final at the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2026 held in Poland.

Mapaya registered a best mark of 16.25m, holding his own against the world’s elite in a highly competitive field.

However, the distance fell short of his usual standards, with the African Championships silver medallist and two-time NCAA champion boasting a personal best of 17.26m.

Focus now shifts to the outdoor season, where the Zimbabwean star will be aiming to rediscover top form and potentially produce even bigger jumps.
