ZANU-PF national leadership has stressed that the party’s strength lies in humility and revolutionary unity rather than individual ambition.
The message was delivered at the Buhera Central Victory celebrations mega rally held in Dzapasi on Sunday, where senior party officials urged members to remain anchored in the liberation struggle’s legacy.
Addressing party supporters, ZANU-PF National Chairperson Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri called for unity within provincial structures.
“It is important to unite, and I urge you, Provincial leadership here, to be humble. ZANU PF is a revolutionary party, and I am urging members to set aside internal friction and honour the heritage of the veterans who carried the movement from the bush to the ballot box,” she said.
The historical significance of Dzapasi Assembly Point during Zimbabwe’s liberation war was also highlighted.
ZANU-PF National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha said the base played a pivotal role during the war.
“This was the largest base, and we used to rely on support from businessmen from across Zimbabwe. It was also a reunion place for families after the war, and it gave us an opportunity to address rallies and teach them about the revolutionary party, and also mobilise the electorate for the upcoming elections. It was also a targeted base by the Rhodesian forces, and they would capture the war veterans and kill them,” he said.
Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Honourable Monica Mavhunga said Dzapasi has since been declared a national monument.
“This is a place which is important in Zimbabwe’s history, and it is now a national monument, and we thank the Second Republic for awarding this important place a befitting status,” she said.
ZANU-PF National Chairman Veterans of the Liberation Struggle, Major General (Retired) Gibson Mashingaidze, said the assembly point was among the largest during the war.
“Dzapasi was widely considered the largest of the 16 APs. At its peak, it housed between 6 000 and 15 000 liberation fighters,” he said.
On the sidelines of the rally, Manicaland provincial leaders expressed support for the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, saying it aligns with the country’s development agenda.
Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Advocate Misheck Mugadza said, “We are fully behind the Constitutional Amendment Bill 3. We are noticing massive developmental results in this province, and we want that to continue.”
ZANU-PF Manicaland Province Chairman Tawanda Mukodza added: “We are happy that finally Vision 2030 is going to be a reality because the Bill is set to create a conducive environment for development to take place.”
The rally also provided a platform for the party’s national leadership to unpack the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill and the ZANU-PF Cell Digitalisation Programme.
