THE Mighty Warriors put up a solid performance to hold reigning COSAFA Women Champions Chipolopolo Queens of Zambia to a goalless draw in their second Group B match of the COSAFA Women’s tournament played at Seshego Stadium this Sunday.

Zimbabwe came into the encounter buoyed by a convincing 2–0 victory over Eswatini in their opening match and drew further confidence from holding the defending champions.

Both sides created chances in a tightly contested affair, with Zambia enjoying slightly more of the attacking initiative.

However, each time the Copper Queens breached the defence, they were denied by an inspired Cynthia Shonga, who was in commanding form between the posts.

Shonga’s assured performance earned her the Player of the Match award, as the Mighty Warriors stood firm to secure a valuable point.

The result leaves Zimbabwe and Zambia level on four points, separated only by goal difference.

Zimbabwe now turn their attention to their final Group B fixture against Botswana on Tuesday, where victory will boost its chances of advancing to the semi-finals.

Only the top team from each of the three groups, along with the best-placed runner-up, will progress to the knockout stage.

Meanwhile , the government has availed US$2 700 for each player, with the funds officially handed over to the team by the Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Honourable Emily Jesaya.
