HARARE – GOVERNMENT has started preparations for the 2025 Heroes Day and Defence Forces Day Celebrations set for Harare next month.
In a Post-Cabinet Media Briefing in Harare this Tuesday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, confirmed that cabinet had approved the celebrations agenda.
“The Government of Zimbabwe is gearing up for the 2025 Heroes Day Commemorations which ate scheduled for Monday August 11, the main event will take place at the National Heroes Acre in Harare with the provincial commemorations being held concurrently across the country. Preparations have already commenced including the compilation of an updated list of National Heroes and Heroines with 222 families expected to attend the main event, the Defence Forces Day Celebrations will be held at Rufaro Stadium on August 12 2025,” he said
Cabinet also approved proposed Honours and Awards for 2025.
“The recipients include Dr Vladimir Shubia, former Head of the Africa Section of the Soviet Afro Asian Solidarity Committee who will receive the Royal Order of Munhumutapa, Chidhudhu Innocent a teenager who bravely rescued two children from burning home in Bindura, who will be awarded the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe and Dr Madeline Nyamwanza the first female African Doctor in Zimbabwe who will receive the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Commendation Award for services in Human Capital Development,” Dr Muswere said.
A new legislative programme has also been outlined by cabinet.
“Under the legislative programme, Cabinet considered and approved the Biological and Toxic Weapons Crimes Bill, 2025, the main objective of the Bill is to prohibit the development, production, manufacture, possession, stockpiling, importation, exportation, transportation, transit shipment, transfer use of certain biological assets and toxins and of biological weapons,” Minister Muswere said.
Other highlights of this week’s Post Cabinet Media Briefing include an update on the Priority Projects for the second 100 Day Cycle of 2025, approval of Pathways to Reintegration Foundation, report on the 50th Independence Day Celebrations in Maputo, Mozambique, attended by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and a report on the 5th session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction.
