HARARE-FRELIMO Secretary General, Cde Chakil Aboobacar, who was elected to the position in February this year was in Harare on Saturday for an engagement with Mozambican nationals and FRELIMO supporters based in Zimbabwe.
The Mozambican ruling party also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation with Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU PF, with a renewed focus on enhancing political and economic ties between the two sister republics.
The meeting, held at the ZANU PF Headquarters, marked Cde Aboobacar’s first official interface with the diaspora community since assuming office.
“I came here so that we know each other and chart the way forward. I want to thank each and every one of you for the good work you are doing in Zimbabwe. I want to thank the ZANU PF party for the continued support. The main reason for coming to Zimbabwe is to cement bilateral relations between Mozambique and Zimbabwe, and we pledge to continue along this trajectory at the political and economic levels,” he said.
The visit underscores the long-standing relationship between the two liberation movements, whose camaraderie dates back to the days of the armed struggle for independence in Southern Africa.
Chairman of the FRELIMO Party in Zimbabwe, Cde Araujo Tomas Mafupe, praised the strong and enduring ties between the two nations, describing the relationship between FRELIMO and ZANU PF as that of “blood brothers.”
“As ZANU PF and FRELIMO, we are not just neighbours but blood brothers. Our relationship dates back to the liberation struggle, and our bond is unbreakable,” Cde Mafupe said.
Zimbabwe and Mozambique continue to enjoy cordial bilateral relations across various sectors including security, trade, energy, and infrastructure development, premised on mutual respect and shared historical values.
