ZIMBABWE’s business community has set sights on mobilising more resources in support of children of veterans of the liberation struggle.
THE Pedzai Sakupwanya Skills Development Trust in collaboration with Harare Businessman Wicknell Chivayo donated US$300 000 during a dinner held on Saturday in Harare to raise funds to support children of veterans of the liberation struggle.
The support was made through the purchase of auctioned football jerseys with jersey number one inscribed Cde ED Mnangagwa.
The other jeserys were inscribed with names of national heroes.
“We are complementing the government and His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of supporting the children of the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle,” Apostle Tendai Meda of the Pedzai Sakupwanya Skills Development Trust said.
“We want to thank His Excellency for his vision, so the money which was donated today will go a long way towards the welfare of the children of veterans of the liberation struggle,” Mr Aspire Mutingwende a member of RedRev Youth Empowerment Fund said.
Guest of Honour, ZANU PF Chief Whip Cde Pupurai Togarepi and Patron for National War Heroes Widows and Widowers Association, Senator Angeline Tongogara outlined the importance of the business community support.
“We want to thank Honorable Sakupwanya and Wicknell Chivayo for coming on board and donating towards the welfare of the children of veterans of the liberation struggle,” Cde Togarepi said.
“I want to talk about the future. I want to talk about the children of our war veterans, who are the future leaders of our nation. These young people are the legacy of our heroes, and it is our duty to ensure that they are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to succeed,” Senator Tongogara said.
“That is why I am proud to see organisations like Redrev Youth Fund, Pedzisai Sakupwanya Skills Development Trust, and Empower Bank working tirelessly to empower the children of our war veterans.
“Their efforts are a testament to the importance of investing in our young people, but we must do more. We must create opportunities for these young people to thrive. We must provide them with access to education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. We must support them as they navigate the challenges of growing up in a rapidly changing world.”
During the event, RedRev Youth Empowerment Fund, Pedzai Sakupwanya Skills Development Trust and Empowerment Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding to empower children of the veterans of the liberation struggle.
