THE Lady Chevrons kicked off their five match One Day International series against the United States of America on a high note after a five wicket victory over the visitors at Harare Sports Club this Thursday.
15-year-old Beloved Biza’s stock continues to rise after leading Zimbabwe to a five-wicket victory over USA.
Biza took three wickets to restrict the visitors to 152 runs all out, before she top-scored for Zimbabwe in the chase with a fluent 38 off 51 balls.
The youngster was recently named as the player of the tournament at the Under-19 Women World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda last month.
“Great debut for her, it shows that what she has been doing at the under-19s was no fluke, it feels gratifying to be able to be named as a player of the match on your debut and I hope she continues to work hard and gets to reach her full potential. The whole team is very happy for her,” said the Lady Chevrons vice captain, Josephine Nkomo.
USA batted first making 152 runs with Anika Kolan top scoring with 37, while Tara Norris contributed 31 runs.
That was before Biza took matters into her own hands.
She was the peak of Zimbabwean bowlers with three wickets for 22 runs while stand-in captain Josephine Nkomo took three for 29 runs while Audrey Mazvishaya and Christabel Chatonzwa weighed in with two wickets each.
All-rounders Biza and Josephine Nkomo were the highest scorers as the lady Chevrons sealed a five wicket victory.
The second ODI will be played at Harare Sports Club this Sunday.
