Zimbabweans in Lesotho seek urgent intervention over prohibitive work permit costs

Vice President Kembo Mohadi has pledged to urgently engage the Lesotho government to address the prohibitive costs of work permits, which are hindering the regularisation of Zimbabweans living in the country.

“We will soon engage Lesotho authorities on the issue of prohibitive costs which are impacting your regularisation,” he said.

A solid position demonstrating political will to improve the welfare of Zimbabwean nationals living in the Diaspora was the central point of discussion when Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi met the Diaspora community working in Maseru this Saturday.

“I agree that the costs that you mentioned are too high, and even the period for the permit is very constrained. Through our Consulate in South Africa, we will be negotiating for the period to be reviewed to at least 5 years,” he said.

The meeting provided a pivotal platform for the government to highlight key investment opportunities that the Diaspora community can leverage to maximize their impact.

“We have many opportunities which are open to invest back home. These stretch from agriculture to mining,” he added.

Moses Chisuko, Vice Chairperson of the Zimbabweans Living in Lesotho Association, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice President Kembo Mohadi for his unwavering commitment to tackling the challenges hindering the growth and well-being of Zimbabweans living in Lesotho.

“We appreciate your presence here, Your Excellency, and we hope that through your intervention, our current challenges will be effectively addressed,” he noted.

On behalf of President Mnangagwa, Vice President Mohadi, reassured the Zimbabwean community abroad that the second republic is dedicated to addressing their concerns and bolstering support. He highlighted the vital role the Diaspora plays in Zimbabwe’s development, emphasising the Second Republic’s commitment to fostering an environment that encourages their participation.
