SIX Castle Lager Premier Soccer League teams have booked their slots in the Chibuku Super Cup quarterfinals, after a series of thrilling matches at the weekend.
Saturday’s action saw Harare giants CAPS United edge out Bikita Minerals 1-nil, courtesy of William Manondo’s solitary goal, securing their place in the last eight.
FC Platinum also joined the quarterfinals party, thanks to Oscar Bhebhe’s 75th-minute strike, which gave them a narrow 1-nil win over TelOne.
In a stunning turn of events, Yadah pulled off a major upset, defeating Chicken Inn 5-4 in a penalty shootout, after the match ended 1-all after 90 minutes.
Sunday’s matches were just as thrilling, with Bulawayo giants Highlanders thrashing Green Fuel 3-nil, while Manica Diamonds cruised to a 3-nil victory over Chegutu Pirates.
Highlanders and Manica Diamonds made it to the next round.
Simba Bhora rounded off the weekend’s action, beating Herentals 4-3 in a penalty shootout, after a goalless draw.
The only blot on the weekend’s fixtures was the postponement of two matches involving Dynamos and Ngezi Platinum, who are currently engaged in CAF inter-club tournaments.
Despite their absence, the excitement and intensity of the tournament was palpable, setting the stage for a thrilling quarterfinals showdown.
The quarterfinals will be held on September 21 and 22, with the ultimate champion set to be crowned on November 30.
