THE ZIMSEC Amendment Bill is set to be tabled before Cabinet this month after it went through the cabinet committee on legislation.
The Bill, aims to tackle persistent issues related to examination leakages, among other grey areas in the country’s education system.
Progress on the deliberations of the bill were discussed in Harare this Tuesday during an engagement between the government and private schools and colleges.
“The ZIMSEC Amendment Bill seeks to criminalise all malpractices that include leakages and also malpractices in terms of examinations fees for money that is supposed to be paid for examinations to the examining body. So that will act as a deterrent to stamp out all the malcontents within the education sector,” Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo said.
The government and private sector partnership in the education sector, registration of schools as well as mushrooming of illegal learning institutions also hogged the limelight.
“We have had discussions on the inclusion of students from private schools in activities such as junior parliament, in NASH activities and also to enhance our partnership in infrastructural development,” Director of Zimbabwe Academic Trust, Ms Benadette Tuso said.
“Government has indicated it is trying to make the registration of schools easier and also indicated it is dealing with unlicensed and unregistered schools,” School owner, Dr Maria Mafunga said.
Other matters that arose from the engagement include the revised education curriculum.
