THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association has stepped up preparations for the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Youth Games after hosting a national Under-20 selection tournament in Harare this Saturday.
The road to Maputo 2026 officially began as the association cast its net wide in search of the country’s next generation of volleyball stars during the Under-20 national team trials.
A total of 28 schools converged in Harare for the Northern Region selections, with the Southern Region trials set for next weekend as the race to wear the national colours gathers momentum.
“We are hoping to select players to put on our long list. After the regional trials, the final selection will be done in Marondera at the National Youth Games before we start training and eventually trim the squads to 20, and finally the 12 players travelling to Maputo,” Zimbabwe Volleyball Association vice president Vengai Nyaude said.
With dreams of representing Zimbabwe on the regional stage now within touching distance, young volleyball players are battling for a place on the long list as competition for spots in Team Zimbabwe heats up ahead of Maputo 2026.
