Blanket Mine extend unbeaten run to 16 matches

BLANKET Mine moved to the summit of the Central Region Division One League after edging fellow promotion hopefuls Kwekwe United 1-0 in a crucial title clash at Sabiwa Stadium.

An early header from in-form striker Mathew Hlabathi proved enough to separate the sides, with the forward scoring in the 19th minute to hand Blanket Mine a victory that could prove decisive in the promotion race.

The result extended Luke Petros’ side’s unbeaten run to 16 matches and lifted them to the top of the standings after Chapungu were held to a goalless draw by fellow army side Tongogara.

Blanket Mine coach Luke Petros hailed his players’ effort after the win.

“We are happy with the result. The boys are working hard and deserved this result. We are now on top of the log, and we want to keep fighting until the end and see what we can do. We also want to thank the support we are getting from the Gwanda community.”

Kwekwe United dominated much of the second half but were unable to find an equaliser.

Coach Tendai Chikuni expressed frustration after the defeat.

“We tried everything, but I am disappointed with the delaying tactics. The ball boys did us a disservice. We now go back to the drawing board.”
