Zimbabwe face must-win Ireland clash to book Super Eight berth

Story by Lawrence Trusida
Zimbabwe must beat Ireland on Tuesday to secure a place in the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, after Australia’s two-wicket loss to hosts Sri Lanka reshaped the Group B standings.
The result has left the Chevrons firmly in control of their qualification hopes heading into the decisive encounter.
Sri Lanka now lead Group B with six points and have already sealed their Super Eight spot. Zimbabwe sit second on four points from two matches.
Australia and Ireland both have two points but have played a game more, while Oman remain bottom of the table without a point.
Zimbabwe will face Ireland on Tuesday before concluding their group campaign against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
Victory over Ireland would automatically guarantee progression to the Super Eight. However, defeat would leave Zimbabwe needing to beat Sri Lanka in their final group match to keep their hopes alive.
Elsewhere in the tournament, India, England, West Indies and South Africa have already secured qualification to the next round.
